Binance Pay Goes Live at Japan's PayPay Merchant Network
Overseas Binance Pay users can now spend at PayPay-supported merchants across Japan via the HIVEX® integration.
Binance has launched a cross-border payment capability that allows eligible overseas users of its Binance Pay service to transact at merchants throughout Japan that accept PayPay, the country's dominant mobile payments platform. The integration, announced September 30, 2026, is powered by the HIVEX® system and is aimed primarily at inbound travelers seeking a frictionless way to spend while visiting Japan.
The partnership bridges the gap between Binance's global crypto-linked payment infrastructure and PayPay's extensive domestic merchant footprint, which spans retail stores, restaurants, and service providers nationwide. For travelers, the arrangement removes the typical friction of currency exchange or acquiring a local payment method before or upon arrival.

The move reflects a broader push by crypto-native payment platforms to embed themselves into everyday consumer spending scenarios, particularly in high-tourism markets. Japan, which has one of the world's highest rates of mobile payment adoption, represents a strategically significant proving ground for such integrations. Binance's announcement was made from Abu Dhabi, underscoring the company's continued operational pivot toward Middle Eastern and Asia-Pacific corridors.
While Binance did not disclose the number of PayPay-affiliated merchants covered by the integration, PayPay is widely deployed across Japan, meaning the potential addressable network for Binance Pay users is substantial. Eligibility requirements for overseas users were not detailed in the announcement, suggesting further terms may apply depending on a user's home country or account status.
